“Incredible Hulk” SMS Reminders Offered to “Iron Man” Fans!
Apptera, the voice and visual mobile advertising company, today announced the completion of a pilot program with Ignited, an El Segundo, Calif.-based full-service marketing agency, to deliver ground-breaking in-call advertising solutions on behalf of its client, Universal Motion Pictures. When callers to a movie show time application asked for the movie “Iron Man,” they heard an audio ad for another Marvel Entertainment production, “The Incredible Hulk,” coming to theaters on June 13th.
Apptera’s mobile advertising technology offers contextual multimedia promotions to callers when they interact with speech-enabled movie show time applications. In this case, when speaking the words “Iron Man,” callers triggered the audio ad for “The Incredible Hulk.” The ad asked the movie fan if he or she would like to receive a text-based reminder on their cell phones the day before the summer’s next big hero, “The Incredible Hulk,” arrives in theaters.
If a user pressed “1,” he or she received an immediate confirmation message, which could include a link to the movie’s mobile Website or voice portal. This text message will allow the fan to interact with the movie brand during the interim, before the requested movie comes out. Then, the day before the premiere, callers will get an SMS reminder, building the anticipation and encouraging them to see the movie on opening weekend.
Ignited, whose client Universal Studios produced “The Incredible Hulk,” saw an opportunity to extend and enhance their promotional reach by leveraging Apptera’s patent-pending voice and visual mobile advertising technology.

Image Entertainment Announces Exclusive U.S. Distribution Agreement for Acclaimed Nick Broomfield Film 'Battle for Haditha'
Image Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: DISK), a leading independent licensee, producer and distributor of home entertainment programming in North America, announced today that it has entered into a U.S. distribution agreement with HanWay Films Ltd. to acquire the home video, broadcast, digital and non-theatrical rights to “Battle for Haditha.” The deal was finalized at the Cannes Film Festival.
“Battle for Haditha” is the true story of a U.S. Marine convoy’s violent retaliation against Iraqi insurgents who bombed their convoy, killing one of their most popular officers. Enraged by this loss, a group of young Marine buddies carries out a brutal response. Their violent house-searches lead to the massacre of 24 people, many of whom are women and children - tragic casualties of a war they cannot control. The Marines too are victim; attacked, wounded and forced to respond in the way they have been trained. But when events occur at great speed and under extreme stress, can Marines in the line of fire be accused of murder?
“Battle for Haditha” was directed, produced and written by Nick Broomfield (“Biggie And Tupac,” “Kurt & Courtney,” “Ghosts,” “Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer”). The film is cast entirely with non-actors: ex-Marines who served in Iraq (Elliot Ruiz, Andrew McLaren and Eric Mehalacopoulos), and Iraqi refugees who had recently arrived in Jordan (The Fuad Family, Oliver Bytrus, Shukrieh Hameed and Falah Ibrahim). The film was shot entirely on location in Jerash, Jordan.

Academy of Cinema and Television Student Cast for Hollywood Horror Film
Several students from the Academy of Cinema and Television (ACT) have been cast in the upcoming major studio horror films "The Between" and "Crypt." The producers and directors Jimmy Flowers (an ACT instructor) and Craig McMahon (director of Machined for Lionsgate) were impressed with the talent at ACT. In fact, only ACT students, past and present, were invited to attend the auditions.
"I know what kind of training ACT provides, and so when it was time to cast youth actors, I knew that ACT was the place to look," Flowers said.
In "The Between," ACT student Nate Chrisman was cast as the evil ghost known as Knife Boy, while Brenna Justine will play his ethereal high school girlfriend. Victoria Cosner also landed a large role as the Drowned Girl ghost, one of the few good spirits in the film's supernatural story. Three ACT students — Anna Clark, Caiti Currey, and Lexie Rich — were also cast as understudies for the film. For more information on The Between, visit http://www.thebetweenmovie.com
ACT student Franz Birkner was cast in Crypt as the boy on the bus. Crypt's story concerns a group of thieves who break into a forgotten crypt, unleashing a deadly curse.

Robin Hood Gallops onto Academy’s Screen
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will screen a Warner Bros. digital restoration of the 1938 classic “The Adventures of Robin Hood” on Sunday, June 1, at 7 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. The program also will explore behind-the-scenes secrets from the making of the film.
Presented by the Academy’s Science and Technology Council, the evening will be hosted by Academy Award®-nominated visual effects supervisor Craig Barron and Oscar®-winning sound editor Ben Burtt. Following the screening, Leith Adams, a Warner Bros. studio archivist, will display a rare matte painting used in the film and discuss its history. Joining Adams will be archery expert Dale Smith, who will reproduce the arrow sounds from the film-using replica arrows designed by Burtt.
“The Adventures of Robin Hood” features Errol Flynn as the quintessential hero matching wits – and blade and arrow – with villainous Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Basil Rathbone), the scheming Prince John (Claude Rains) and the Sheriff of Nottingham (Melville Cooper). Complementing the action is the love story of Robin and Maid Marian (Olivia de Havilland).
The film garnered Academy Awards for Art Direction (Carl Weyl), Film Editing (Ralph Dawson) and Music – Original Score (Erich Wolfgang Korngold) as well as a nomination for Outstanding Production. The most expensive Warner Bros. production to that point, the feature was an early Technicolor hit.

Academy’s Contemporary Documentaries Series Continues with Stories of Confession and Survival
Two Hands,” “Dear Talula” and “Deliver Us from Evil” will screen as part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Spring 2008 “Contemporary Documentaries” series on Wednesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. Admission is free.
The 2006 Oscar®-nominated documentary short subject “Two Hands" spotlights pianist Leon Fleisher, who at the height of his career lost the ability to play with his right hand.
